Trump’s Executive Orders

On January 20th, 2025, newly elected President Donald J. Trump signed 26 executive orders on Day 1 when entering office. Twelve were memorandums and 4 were proclamations. The orders spanned a wide range of issues from immigration, energy, free speech, government efficiency, and border security. This will be a personal project, but you can follow along.

I highlighted Executive Order 14158 because it’s of the most concern to me, since it will directly affect the Black community. It involves giving more power to both the federal and state governments to carry out executions. Ironically, it rolled back the 2021 protections Biden put in place. This is of concern to me because the death penalty disproportionally affects Black people more than any other group in the United States. And many times, especially in the Deep South, Black men are executed even though the evidence doesn’t tie them to the murder victim. The most recent victim of this was Marcellus Williams who was just recently executed in the state of Missouri, even though the evidence didn’t tie him to the scene and the victim’s family requested no execution. He was executed last September by lethal injection anyway.
